When the United States captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in his room at Fort Tiuna, in Caracas, many people made a seemingly simple calculation: in politics, as in medicine, evil must be nipped in the bud. And, since the American government had first gone after the successor to Hugo Chávez — who governed Venezuela from 1999 until his death in 2013, before Maduro took over — the next step was to go after the Castro regime in Cuba.
